The Silver Chalice Ministry is to encourage, support, and celebrate congregations, Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) offices, assemblies and organizations who have a strong desire to live out their Christian faith by caring for, assisting, and utilizing the gifts and wisdom of older adults while also serving people of all ages.

First Christian Church Garland has achieved a Level 1 Silver Chalice designation which means the congregation has reached certain goals regarding programming and services that focus on adding meaning and value to the life of the older adult as well as to the life of the larger church.

The mission of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) is "to be and to share the good news of Jesus Christ witnessing, loving, and serving from our doorsteps to the ends of the earth." This mission is to all people…those who are young and able-bodied, and those with families to raise, and those who are older adults (referring loosely to those 65 and older). All people of all ages have gifts and talents to share and contribute to the life of the church.

All of the people at First Christian Church Garland hold the historical knowledge and experience of being the Church, here in our community, for over 150 years. Here, people have opportunities for discipleship, worship, community outreach, and volunteering to make a difference. There are places for everyone: Children, Youth, Young Adults, Parents, Established Adults, Recently Retired and Beyond.
