Refugees

 

Mike's Kids is an annual program that is supported by the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and is part of the Southwest Good Samaritan Ministries (www.swgsm.org) in the Rio Grande Valley. This program supports children who have been abandoned or families that have been forced out of their homeland to a new country. Each year as Christmas approaches, the Christian Churches (Disciples of Christ) begin filling boxes with new and gently used clothing and toys to be delivered to Los Fresnos, Texas (the Reverend Feliberto Pereira), to be distributed to "the poorest of the poor" in the area and to an orphanage just across the border in Mexico.


First Christian Church Garland collects used clothing, shoes, toys, kitchen items, bicycles, etc for Mike's Kids in November and December. Collected items are then picked up from the church and taken to a collection center. Volunteers from our church will then help load all collected items from the area into the truck that will deliver to Good Samaritans in the Rio Grande Valley.
