Community

We serve our Community...

FCC Rowlett Angel Tree

Rowlett Reindeer Angel Tree project gives hope each Christmas as every child deserves to experience the joy of Christmas morning. This program helps provide Christmas gifts for hundreds of children in our community each year. Once a child has been registered and accepted as an Angel their Christmas wish list is shared with First Christian Church Garland members who purchase gifts of new clothing and toys in late November, early December. The gifts are then taken to FCC Rowlett to be distributed to the family and placed under their family Christmas tree.

Friendship House

A relief ministry sponsored by First Baptist Church of Garland, in conjunction with local churches and community organizations, was organized in 1977 to help meet the physical needs of those who were out of work, physically disabled, or low income for a variety of reasons and circumstances. We serve the Garland, Rowlett and Sachse communities. FCCG supports Friendship House through our Rainy Day Project. Raincoats, ponchos, rain boots and umbrellas are collected January through April, then taken to Friendship House for distribution.

Good Samaritans of Garland

"Good Sam" was formed in 1983 from an alliance of several Garland faith communities, including our own, with the intent to provide centrally located services for neighbors in need of assistance. There is an on-going need for volunteers and donations of food. FCCG conducts food drives (non-perishable) about three times a year. We also collect wrapped plasticware packets and deliver about four times a year. In November we donate Thanksgiving dinners to be distributed to those in need via "Good Sam". FCCG also supports this non-profit organization with an annual financial donation.

Jonathan's Place

Jonathan's Place works to provide a safe place, loving homes, and promising futures for abused and neglected children, teens, and young adults.

FCCG provides handmade quilts to Jonathan's Place in support of this youth-based, non-profit organization in our community.

Journey of Hope

Journey of Hope Counseling Center is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing free peer grief support groups to children, adolescents, and their parents or adult caregivers who have experienced a death.

In December, FCCG collects small, soft, and cuddly, stuffed animals to give to children attending Journey of Hope for the first time. The animals provide a "touchstone" for the child as they represent a sense of comfort, security and emotional well-being in scary and unsure times and places. FCCG also prepares and serves a meal once a year to grieving families and counselors at the center.

Juliette Fowler Communities

includes a wide range of services for aging adults who choose apartments in various settings. Children are served through foster care and adoption services and youth are served through both residential services and the Youth Support Center.

FCCG supports this Disciples of Christ supported community with an annual Cherry Festival & Birthday Party that usually occurs in February, Christmas gift bags in December, and a magazine collection program where magazines are delivered four times a year. Toiletries are sometimes collected and delivered along with the other items mentioned.

Sleep in Heavenly Peace

Sleep in Heavenly Peace builds beds for kids who do not have their own. Sleep in Heavenly Peace is 100% volunteer-driven and donation-driven. Any donations received go toward purchasing materials for beds, bed assembly and delivery, and buidling and improving our organization.

This is a new endeavor for FCCG. Our intent is to make a monetary donation to purchase the materials to build a bed and furnish the bed with a mattress, sheets, and pillows. FCCG is planning to have a team that will build a bed and another team that will go and deliver the bed to a family in need.

Veterans Adminstration Hospital

The Veterans Adminstration Hospital's mission is to care for those who have served in our nation's military.

FCCG supports our Veterans by sending cards and collecting lotions and toiletries for goody bags to be distributed at the VA hospital. This project usually occurs in November.

Colossians 3:12
"Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience."
