Summary
First Christian Church has four highly active youth groups for those in the kindergarten through twelfth grades.
- PYF (Kindergarten - 3rd grades)
- JYF (4th & 5th grades)
- CHI RHO (6th – 8th grades)
- CYF (9th – 12th grades)
These groups meet together on Sunday evenings during the school year at 5 PM to begin their evening with a snack supper in the fellowship hall. Then the youth divide into groups, based on grade level, for activity time from 5:30 – 7 PM. Each of these groups has their own set of dedicated adult sponsors who help plan the weekly meetings and special events.
Our church actively participates in the Disciples of Christ summer camp program by sending our youth to the Athens campground each summer. Summer camps are a weeklong experience for each group.
Each summer our Chi Rho and CYF groups take mission trips. The mission trips are full of a lot of work — from the year-round fundraising activities to the labors of love we experience at the mission site. Of course, we manage ways to have fun on those trips as well! Each winter Chi Rho and CYF groups also have an opportunity to go back to Athens for a weekend retreat called Mid Winter.
Each spring we have an all youth retreat for everyone in our youth programs. This is a weekend event that happens close to Spring Break and creates a great way for us to grow closer to one another and to God.
Note: During the summer, we do not meet weekly for youth groups. Instead, we stay busy with summer camps and mission trips. Our groups do gather, on occasion, for fellowship and fun. Also, we have several opportunities to get involved with local mission work that can be completed in a single day. Our Sunday school classes meet each week, even during the summer.
