Ministries at First Christian Church
Worship Ministry
The Worship Ministry at First Christian Church helps provide meaningful experiences of worship and encourage the enrichment of personal and family devotional life. The music ministry at FCC is a crucial part of all the worship services. The Handbell Choir practices on Wednesday evenings at 6 p.m. and presents special music several times throughout the year. The Chancel Choir meets on Wednesday evenings at 7 p.m. and presents an anthem each Sunday. The Praise Band gives opportunity for uplifting contemporary praise as they help lead worship at the contemporary service. They rehearse every Sunday evening in the Activity Center.
Christian Education Ministry
This ministry oversees an effective program of religious education for the entire congregation by planning and administering church school, Sunday evening youth activities, mid-week educational projects, leadership education, and Vacation Bible School.
Evangelism Ministry
The Evangelism Ministry seeks to cultivate an evangelistic spirit within the church. This ministry greets guests and keeps records of their attendance. They work together with the Membership Ministry to help new members find their niche in their new church family.
Membership/Caring Group Ministry
Caring Groups provided a network of concerned and trained caregivers who minister to the family at First Christian Church. Every member of the church is assigned to a caring group which ministers to its members by visiting at the hospital or at home, providing food in emergency situations, comforting the grieving and providing telephone communications when necessary.
Stewardship Ministry
The Stewardship Ministry cultivates a full understanding of the meaning of Christian stewardship among our church members. This group directs the financial program of the church so that it will not only supply the financial needs, but also provide a means of spiritual enrichment and character building for each one participating.
Outreach Ministry
The Outreach Ministry creates and fosters a vision of benevolence within the church and its auxiliary organizations. They enlist support for outreach to the social agencies of the community, the nation, and the world. Local benevolence includes financial support of New Beginnings Center for abused women and their children; Galaxy Center, a counseling agency for troubled youth and families; Good Samaritans which provides a food pantry, clothes and financial assistance for Garland residents and The Angel Food Ministry, a program which provides food at a discounted rate. The Outreach Ministry also supports, with money and volunteers, our denomination’s campground in Athens, TX. Youth Groups at FCC regularly support outreach with annual mission trips and various service projects throughout the year. Adults make quilts for hospitalized children, donate blood, deliver baskets of food at Thanksgiving and shower families with gifts at Christmas.
Fellowship Ministry
The Fellowship Ministry encourages every member to participate in the social activities of the church. It is responsible for coordinating all fellowship and social activities within the church; providing receptions and fellowship meals as needed; and keeping an accurate inventory of kitchen supplies and furnishings.
