Class Summary & Schedule
Christian teaching and nurture are two key focus areas for First Christian Church, bringing members together to share knowledge and build for the future.
- Eight adult Sunday school classes taught by experienced Bible teachers, 10:15 AM on Sunday
- Nine Sunday school classes for children and youth, 10:15 AM on Sunday
- A variety of covenant groups (small groups)
Adult Sunday School
Apostles
A highly interactive, team taught class for young adults that meets near the top of the south stairway in Room 13.
Christianity 101
A class for those who have real questions about their faith and seek to ask them in a friendly and encouraging environment. The class covers the basics of the faith and specific areas of interest or concern to its members. The class is lead by a dynamic couple and meets upstairs in Room 15.
College & Careers
College and 20-something class that enjoys a balance of fellowship and discussion of life issues from a Christian perspective and meets upstairs in Room 9.
Cooper Class
A class for mixed age adults. Several teachers rotate and lead the class in a combination of lecture and discussion. The class meets in the Parlor at the south entrance.
Crusaders Class
A team taught class of mixed age adults featuring lectures and active discussion that meets upstairs in Room 16. Frequent class activities include trips, parties, and service projects.
Disciples
A lecture and discussion class for adults of all ages dealing with thought-provoking, open discussions on scripture. Gathers several times a year for fellowship activities and outings. Meets near the top of the northeast stairway in Room 6.
Followers
A team taught Bible study class for younger to middle aged adults with lots of discussion. The class meets weekly in Room 7 at the top of the south stairs and also enjoys meeting together at other times, including several social events each year.
Ruth Mix Class
An active class of older adults led by a rotating group of teachers who engage the class in lively discussion each week in the corner classroom downstairs beside the library. The class also meets every other month for a daytime activity or outing.
Children's Sunday School
Infants
A nursery is provided in Room 4 for infants until their second birthday. Nursery attendants are employees of the church with training and experience in child care.
2 & 3 Years Old
Meets downstairs in Room 3 in the nursery area. These young children absorb the good news about Jesus as it is presented by teachers who joyfully demonstrate God's love.
4 & 5 Years Old
Meets upstairs in Room 8. Plenty of hands-on experiences, stories, and songs led by teachers who truly love these children.
Kindergarten
Meets upstairs in Room 7. This class enjoys a special curriculum designed by Jerome Berryman that allows them to incorporate their play into a worship experience.
1st Grade
Meets upstairs in Room 10. Children continue to build on the foundation, learning more Bible stories and how to live as God's people in the world.
2nd – 3rd Grade
Meets upstairs in Room 14. Also uses the Berryman curriculum that provides a creative atmosphere with crafts and Bible stories. The children are encouraged to express freely their worship to God through prayer and sharing.
4th – 5th Grade
Meets upstairs in Room 12 in the northwest corner. Students are challenged to read the Bible for themselves and grow in their understanding and service through a variety of curriculum driven learning experiences.
Youth Sunday School
6th – 8th Grades
Meets upstairs in the Youth Wing, Room 22. Lessons focus on real life issues and help empower these preteens and teens to live godly lives. Ample time is allowed for group discussion and prayer.
9th – 12th Grades
Meets upstairs in the Youth Wing, Room 21. Lessons focus on helping these older youth begin to understand not only what they believe, but also why they hold such beliefs. Ample time is allowed for group discussion and prayer.
Covenant Groups
These small groups are a place where people know your name and miss you when you're absent. This active ministry is comprised of several covenant groups that meet on a weekly basis. With a variety of groups and meeting times, one is sure to fit your busy schedule. For more information about these small groups contact us.
